How Double Glazing Works
Double glazing can make a big difference to comfort levels and energy efficiency of your home. Up to 31% of a home’s heating or cooling loss is through ordinary glass windows and doors. Double glazing can reduce this by up to 73%.

A double-glazed IGU (insulated glass unit) uses two glass panes, separated by a 6-12mm gap which is filled with air or a harmless insulating gas such as argon.
The transfer of heat or noise through the window is then greatly inhibited by the gap between the two panes.
Special kinds of glass are also available which have greater insulative properties in the glass itself, further enhancing the effectiveness of double glazing.
